The Frugal Movement and Voluntary Simplicity

Frugality is often incorrectly likened to cheapness or stinginess.  Frugality is really about using restraint in the acquisition of goods and services, instead focusing on deeper, meaningful goals.  There are many ways to practice frugality from reducing waste, to seeking efficiency, to changing expensive routines.  Sometimes frugality is about not spending money, while other times it's about buying the best quality item available.  Frugality is different for each individual and it's up to you to determine how frugality can improve your life.

Voluntary simplicity or simple living is about simplifying your life by reducing consumption.  It has much in common with frugality and many core concepts are the same.   Practicing simplicity often leads individuals to have to spend less time working and thus have more free time to pursue other areas of interest such as family and art.
